The Jerry Springer of academia?

Maybe.

101 Fascinating Brain Blogs

By Alisa Miller

  1. The Neurocritic. The Jerry Springer of academia? Maybe. This blog provides the "most sensationalistic recent findings in Human Brain Imaging, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Psychopharmacology." And it's difficult to quit reading.
I would like to think of myself as slightly more intellectual than Jerry, but perhaps Alisa Miller will pitch a combative brain blog show to NBC. But for now, Bloggingheads.tv will have to do.

At any rate, plenty of old favorites and some new ones are on the list, so be sure to check it out.

Hi,
Well, since you are now the Jerry Springer of academia I now have the guts to ask if you read the sensationalistic article in the July/August issue Atlantic Monthly, Is Google Making Us Stupid? http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google... and if you read it, what did you think?

Hi Angel,

I'm familiar with the article in question, but I only "skimmed" it (making me guilty of the phenomenon Carr criticizes in his uninformed and poorly researched argument against "the computer"). Notice that he has a book out called The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, From Edison to Google.

On the other hand, we have the opposite claim, Is Google Making Us Smarter? and Internet use 'good for the brain' based on the work of Gary Small. Not surprisingly, Dr. Small has written a book on the subject as well, iBrain: Surviving the Technological Alteration of the Modern Mind.
